Diacetyl is onow safe? when did things change?

So i was flipping through face book when a seen a a link to a article that read What’s All The Fuss About Diacetyl? so naturally i read it, and raised a eyebrow and said a few explicit things.....last i heard Diacetyl was a HUGE no no....did something change? because if it did i have been living under a rock all these days.......

Any Juice makers out there want to weight in on this one?

It is easy enough to avoid. So why take the chance. Even if the risk is tiny. None is better than tiny. But really, it probably isn't so bad after all.

See i was curious as back in 2010 when i started, it was the talk of vape town. From what i understand it is the same stuff that is in the popcorn that you nuke at home, so then even a little in your juice was a huge no no. Like i said i could have been living under a rock and it is now "good" to have....

One thing i will say upfront and i am not shy about, having on Greek Dr. (or "Dr.") saying he did all these studies and everything is good is a bit shaky to me. Now if you get another three or four Dr's on board saying the evidence is the same fine, but i have a hard time resting my believe on the word of one dude(tte)

i've often wondered the same thing. I get that it's not good for you but if the desease it's supposed to cause doesn't happen at level's 100 times higher than what's in an ecig i feel pretty good about what i'm doing lol.

I thought there were a couple liquids tested that were actually higher than a regular cig as well though?

This is broadcast from the Click Bang show that was on this week where Russ talks about diacetyl and testing. He had Dr F on and the good doctor discusses that it is not so much popcorn lung that we have to worry about but that damage to the lungs will occur from diacetyl.

It's an avoidable risk, one that can removed from our ejuice, or at least be in there in the smallest amount possible.
Second hand vaping - the process of letting people know that it's much better than smoking normal cigarettes and in the process converting them over.

Why hasn't anyone looked into creating flavors just for inhalation. They would make a fortune. It must be possible, or maybe flavor companies, aren't interested in vapor's needs.

I've heard Diacetyl, in the doses we use, is not as bad as cigarettes. However, when I started my juice line I searched for, and thought I had found, a Diacetyl free flavor vendor. (Flavor West) Well, it turns out that approx 24 of their 160+ flavors contain Diacetyl. Honestly I don't want to Vape it but I absolutely love several flavors that contain it. I will continue using them because I feel it is not as bad as cigarettes. I carry about 30 Diacetyl free flavors, but If the name says butter or cream it has Diacetyl.

IMO most flavor vendors are working to test the safety of their flavors with regards to inhalation. But I think it would require a total rewrite of food chemistry to find new base ingredients that could convincingly mimic the flavors vapers demand. I believe it's a case of lesser evil.

Side note: I see so many ejuice vendors in Canada claiming to be Diacetyl free, PG free and/or organic and they use the same flavouring as I do. Does anyone else see this or notice a trend? I was called out in my own thread and appreciate it. I didn't know and it made me do a little more research.

Pretty well every vendor claims to be diacetyl-free. In the link to the Click, Bang broadcast above, Dr. Farsalinos or Dr. Gillman (can't remember who said it) at one point mentions this situation, and the feeling is that most vendors who say all their liquid is diacetyl-free just don't know any different rather than trying to be dishonest, they are going on what they have been told by their supplier. And the point was also made that if the supplier cannot back up their claim with actual lab tests, they probably don't have a clue either.

At the moment, I personally feel this is a huge problem of transparency to consumers. Many people have no issues vaping DAA, many do, it's impossible to make an informed decision when you haven't been informed.

The problem here is these flavouring companies are generally specific and state that they're to be used as food or perfume additives only. The tests they use check for FDA approved amounts for ingestion. This applies to all the flavourings we use. I don't think there's been many studies about different ingredients being heated and inhaled, and possible interactions they'll have with each other in those conditions.

I am listening to that too (need to start catching his live shows again), and it is really causing me to raise a eyebrow. What gets me is there is a Company here in Calgary that is trying to pimp out Suicide bunny juice like mad, and in the past i always wanted to try some but never had the extra coin for the near $40/bottle they wanted......now i am kind of counting my lucky stars i didn't.

but as i prep to make a hazelnut coffee and enjoy some seven gorillas (by foggy gorilla -- to me it is like fruit loops with a hint of menthol, very nice) i take a small personal comfort in knowing some time ago when i got so horribly sick on the e juice that it was not in my mind, and that i tend to metabolize/process things (ie: vape) faster then the rest of the normal vapers, and that it was not all in my head
