My mother always said "Don't tell me, SHOW me" and of course she was right as mothers often are. SHOW ME! Don't care who you are- if you aren't an ECTA member and you don't test your liquid, I'm not buying from you. Period. Spent too many years intentionally doing harm to myself via smoking- if this is a safer alternative- than prove it. Favouring companies either have to step up and test, and sometimes that will include eliquid producers as well, or stop saying they do not contain these ingredients.
I do hope we can create a list of vendors who test for the benefit of vapers who choose to want that assurance. All of ECTA of course, and there are others. Rainbow does testing. Theravape we know tests. Maple Leaf has done some testing. And i am assuming other vendors juice line products carried by ECTA are in the mix of being subject to testing for at least those products they carry. As far as juice price goes, if it matters, i honestly don't see much difference - CEV has great discounts, Electrovapors has the cheapest Expresspost in the country - if you work out any extra you pay it's pennies per mil.

Really? I didn't hear that. I assumed they tested a range of different flavours. My god can you imagine if they focused on creamy, custard-y, butterscotch-y ones?

I bought a bunch of juices from an ECTA member that claimed their juices were acetoin, acetyl, and diacetyl free, so I'm a bit surprised (and disappointed) to hear that ECTA members have only started testing for acetoin & acetyl in the last month

That is disappointing if it was specifically stated. Maybe they are just reiterating from the flavor company again. We know now that's not exactly reliable. I'm still a bit confused - is the problem because the intended use is now different (inhaling flavorant versus ingesting) or is it more than that?

yes they may have been reiterating, but with them knowing that Flavour vendors can't be trusted, they should have known not to do that. I assumed because they tested and stated they were free of all 3 ingredients that they tested for all 3 ingredients.

Don't get me wrong, I'm thrilled that ECTA is starting to test, it's just a shame that I'm now not sure if my juices have acetoin and acetyl in them.

I know that sounds strange but I was really hoping "Diacetyl" would be the issue - cause I was imagining all kinds of really bad other things and the announcement that some additional undesireable chemical would be identified and we'd be then trying to figure out how to get that out of our eliquid too.

It's taken quite awhile to figure out how to effectively identify Diacetyl when it's not on an MSDS sheet or elsewhere listed in the raw materials used for eliquid. So while 69% is a really high percentage, at least we have the processes to find that niggling little chemical and eradicate it.

A "wake up call" for sure - an alarm clock. It's time to wake up. Appears that Diacetyl is a pretty common additive in "diacetyl free" flavor bases. I hope eliquid makers can take this information and use it to make a better product.
I know, I felt the same, I was thinking *crap* what now..

Maybe one of the ECTA members can fill me in a little better if they've done recent testing on any of these flavours? That would be greatly appreciated!

    Hey Vangrl,

I will go through my tests to let you know which of those I have had tested. I know Creamy menthol is "all clear", blackberry as well. Just got in the door but will respond with what we do have. Screen shots sufficient?

    Thanks,
    Char

In that interview the DR talks specifically about Acetyl Propionyl being as harmful to inhale as Diacetyl, but he never mentions (in that clip anyway) anything about Acetoin. Is Acetoin not considered as bad as the other 2?

Also, listening to that recording it does not come across that all the flavours tested were tobacco flavours. I think it was a range of flavour profiles.

Well that's that. If all I'm avoiding is tar, 4000(-1) and 60 carcinogenic chemicals, I'm going back to smoking
