Bill 45 DEFEATED Hooray!
Today it was announced that, aside from regulations on underage sales, the remainder of Ontario's new ecig legislation will NOT be coming into effect, on January 1, 2016 - as planned.
Section 3 of Bill 45 "Making Healthier Choices Act", will be rewritten. Whether as a new act, or simply the regulations - is not clear yet. It appears to be regulations only - but time will tell.
HUGE thanks to :
CVA - whose GR firm has been hard at work to ensure these regs would not pass for Jan. 1
Ontario Vapers - who've written, presented, called, marched and basically refused to give up.
THRA - who've represented the needs and rights of consumers
ECTA - who authored reports, conducted air-quality tests (with CVA) and offered all other tests to regulators
Dr Farsalino's team - who authored a paper in response to the regulations, submitted to the Ontario Legislature
1 down - BC, NS, PEI, QU to go....

"Defeated" is a bit of an over statement. It's been delayed due to conflicts between medical and recreational use, so I wouldn't call it a great victory just yet.

If I could, I'd like to add to the list - Maria Papaioannoy-Duic & the rest of the organizers who rallied at Queen's Park - kudos

It is defeated.
The minister's statement is a bit soft - but the regulations for the bill will be different. There will be further consultations, with stakeholders, and changes.
When Ontario introduced their statement about marijuana vaporizing being exempted from the rules listed in Bill 45, those exemptions were identical to what we originally asked for to apply to vaping / ecigs. Namely that vaping restrictions be left up to the individual policies of businesses and organizations, but no public or in-store restrictions.
There is no way of knowing what will come out of the next consultations, until they've taken place.
Only 3 regs were set to begin on January 1. One of them will still start: ie: no underage sales. The other 2 (no vaping in public places or vape shops) are off the table. The remainder were not given any regulations or start date.
The bill itself has not been repealed. We have no information right now on whether the actual bill will be amended or if the amendments will take place inside regulations. The minister's statement on wanting to get this done quickly, seems to imply that changes will be made inside the regs - that's a far easier and faster way to make changes at this point. But it's an assumption.

it was a huge win on your guys part, i was so excited to see the rally and all the mentions. We in BC are going through the same thing but we are in the "waiting" part to see what happens, so i hope that what happened in ontario influences and helps us out here in BC.
Great job Kat and everyone else who fought it.. because it is a win...

Watching the rally at Queen's park was awesome--While we in Ns are now living under stricter rules- I'm glad Ontario is at least so far, safe. Good job everyone!
Merry Christmas, Happy Yule, Festivus, Hannacah, Kwanza- or simple no holiday but glad that the longest night of the year is almost over-the days start lengthening tomorrow!
