The VS rDNA40 is an excellent mod. My current favorite. If you are just getting into rebuilding work with a regulated mod first. Much safer. Unless you are into shiny objects and really like the tube type mods I wouldn't bother with a mechanical.

And as your first rebuildable I would recommend a Kanger Subtank mini. All around good tank. Plus it comes with bases both for stock coils or rebuilding giving you some flexibility. If you find rebuilding to your liking then I would suggest getting a Kayfun, everybody should have at least one Kayfun. Go for a Kayfun Lite PLus.

i was looking at the kaanger mini actually. and the reason i do like the tube mods is that they look nice, and the tube style. there seems to be some danger with the units. are they venerable to batteries popping?

Mecahnicals have no safety features. Its just a tube and a battery. You have a short in your coil and you will vent the battery. Also you will need to learn you ohms law making sure your battery can handle the coil resistance you are using. Also a mechanical does not regulate voltage so a fresh battery will start at 4.2v and then start decreasing. With a regulated mod it will keep a constant voltage that you set it at even if the battery voltage goes lower. Get a regulated mod first. I think you said you have an iStick? That is fine for now. Get a rebuildable tank and build coils around the 1.4ohm to start off with, your iStick is more than powerful enough for that. The Kanger mini will work fine on the iStick.

Hey thanks for the advice. Maybe I'll just do that then and learn about ohms law and build the coils and add wicks.

Dna 40 with temp control is nice but way over priced imo.your better of going with an mvp 3.0 or istick50w better pricing and good quality. Both allow to go .4 and .2 omhs so u can get into subohm with out much issue. Mech mods personally are to much for a beginner as your required to understander your batterys amp limits and ohms law to prevent kaboom. And i litterly mean kaboom. Personally i wont recommend a mech to anyone as requlated devices are safer and plenty accurate and powerfull.

Im personally ordering the black istick50w and subtank mini. I was wanting the mvp 3 in blue but i want the slightly bigger battery and the ability to go lower in ohms ans higher in power.looking at the future. Cause unlike alot of people i cant afford a new 100$+ device every other month. I work part time at newfoundland minimin wage.lol

You can try out some cheap drippers to start out too, if it's your first you're not going to know any difference in quality anyway, it'll be better flavour/vapour than what you've used before. Just make sure you read and watch lots of stuff online about tutorials and safety!
Just something quick to address here, Not recommending a simple to use regulated box mod to someone who's never built before, but recommending an RTA or cheap dripper? That doesn't make sense. Besides a DNA 40 is just as simple as the istick he already has, if not better, because it's not going to refuse to fire just because he's slightly below an ohm on his build.

I actually found this Tobeco DNA30 | AceVaper at acevaper.ca. I was thinking because It has a removable battery, I can just charge a few, and carry them around. also its the stick style I was looking for. its has a DNA30 (not the 40), and do like the overall look. I also just read a few guides on how to build a coil and wick, so Friday im going to buy this, and a kanger mini. am I making a good choice here?

You better check the size of this thing. Regulated tube mods tend to be very long. Not something you can just throw in your pocket.

Sorry I could have worded a better response.. I wouldn't recommend jumping into the temperature control right away because that is more complicated. With that said, the DNA40 doesn't have to be used in temperature control mode, so yes at the end of the day it's probably a better box to buy, because it has that option for when they're knowledgeable enough to know it. Just to clarify I wasn't opposing getting into the rebuildables, just the temperature control, that's why I recommended the easy rta or cheap dripper! hope this clears some stuff up
