Yes. My employer didn't like the idea of it. So I changed it up a bit.

Moderators- Is it possible to sticky this where it will get the most exposure? This is a great, understandable guide to batteries, thank you Howie for your hard work. Everyone who owns a PV, whatever it is- should read this.

Hissing is not good if it's coming from the battery. If it were me, I wouldn't even use them. But if you are, keep your eye on them for god's sake.
If it's electrical zzzzzzzzz then maybe the charger, and still, keep an eye on it!

Some chargers will emit something between a squeal and a hiss, depending on what they're doing with current, but as everyone else has said, keep an eye on it, better safe than sorry.

Personally I wouldn't trust a Sigelei as far as I could throw it (and I'd be prepared to throw it), you might want to invest into at least a Nitecore, Xtar, or Efest charger.

I keep an Xtar MC0 with me everywhere, cost about $15 shipped, is ridiculously tiny, well-reviewed, and I can just use a phone charger to power it. It won't do 650s, but here's a picture of it with an 18500 in it (sorry about the washed-out colour, the light from the window is tricky right now).

Depends on the charger.. If its the Xtar WP6 II, the buzz is a known issue but doesn't seem to affect the function. Just a poor quality capacitor or something inside.

If your ever unsure, plug it into a long extension cord, set it outside on the pavement and have a beer for the first couple of charges. Some are known to make soft noises.
