Kayfun Lite Plus - Flavor drop off

    Hey guys,

I've had my kayfun lite plus for over a month now and it's been a hit and miss, love/hate relationship. I can get the builds down no problem now, no dry hits and wicking efficiently using microcoils (28g) with cotton.

My issue is with flavor drop off. If I haven't used my kayfun for a period of time the first few toots are magical, full of flavor. After a couple minutes though, the flavor drops off significantly. I've used numerous juices with the same result.

I've tried so many variations within my build to troubleshoot: more wick, less wick, bigger coils, smaller coils, raising the coil, lowering the coil, more airflow, less airflow, checking the airflow pin, nudging the green ball down in the air hole port, etc, etc. I'm at a loss. It's been my go to setup every day for ease of use and quality vape but I know the vape I get off the first few puffs should be like that all the time. I feel like I'm missing out on an even better vape haha

If anyone has experienced this or has any suggestions I am all ears!

How are you wicking it? A good description or, better yet, a picture, would help. I don't experience any flavour change until the coil is gunked up (which can take a handful of full fills, with the right juice). Until then, one toot is basically the same as the next.

Also, what's this 'green ball' you mention? My genuine KFL+es don't have anything in the airhole except the airflow screw in the base and, further on, the center pin.

Typical microcoil (wrapped around a 3/32 drill bit) with cotton through it resting on the sides of the base but not anywhere near the juice channels. I'll get a pic when I need a refill.

If you unscrew the airflow adjustment screw and look inside there is a tiny green ball that apparently helps reduce the whistle some people experience. It can also come out of place slightly and restrict airflow (it's happened to me a few times)

I frequently take the airflow screw out entirely, I've never seen any kind of ball, just machined stainless channels. Both of my KFL+es have a February 2014 manufacture date, so if yours is newer than that, maybe they made some changes.

Have you ever tried the 'Z' method with wicking? That's all I've ever used, from Hcigar 3.1 clones, to Fasttech clones, to the real deals and a Russian 91. Coil laid diagonally 45 degrees across the airhole, lifted 1-2mm above the hole, pop on the chimney base (the cylinder, without the Tin Man hat) with your wick sticking out up top, snip each end about 6mm above the top of the chimney base, then wet it with juice and tuck it down so the wick forms a Z, with a length along the deck, tucked away from the juice channels. I've just filled, so I haven't got any pics of mine, but I'll try to take one next time I re-wick. Basically it means I've got nearly a centimeter on each side that's always soaked, which gets wicked up to the coil. I have to actively try to get a dry hit once the pressure is equalised (after a fill I do a couple of dry pulls to make some vacuum).

Edit: It's actually how Svoemesto recommends you wick, if you want to Google the manual.

If you're not experiencing dry hits or flooding then how you are wicking sounds right. The issue sounds like it could be the material you are using for the wick itself. Most wicks have a short break in period. So perhaps try another type of cotton or silica or rayon.

Also it sounds like you are thinking of the fill valve with a little ball on some variations. The air flow should not have any ball in it at all. Which kayfun are you using or where did you get the KFL?

I don't have a Kayfun, but the problem your experiencing is similar to the one I have on my Protank2,
I find when I chain vape and my juice level gets low, the Protank heats up, and then my vapor production decreases.
when I let it sit for 15 min or so, the vapor production picks up again until it gets warm.

when you let the Kayfun rest, does the flavor pick up again for a bit.
I'm assuming that there is a definite relationship between vapor production and flavor

I tried to smoke an e-cig once. Couldn't get the damn thing lit.

IMO, you are using to much cotton and/or the tank isn't sealed properly.

I had those issues with Protank2s as well, but a properly set up Kayfun shouldn't have them. If you have to adjust your vaping (beyond a simple tilt, what's up, genny lovers) to the device, to the detriment of your enjoyment of said device, it's time to move on. Fifteen minutes is an eternity when all you need is a toot or two.

    Figure this out, Scootsie.

I usually have at least 2 protanks on the go, currently 3,
have to put those extra batteries I have to use.

as for overheating, I suppose the Kayfun itself is a large enough heat sink that the heat would get dissipated.

I tried to smoke an e-cig once. Couldn't get the damn thing lit.
