When trying to sound legal goes wrong
Last night i fired off a email to a Vape B&M what i got back as part of the reply had me laughing and i wanted to share. For all i care it could have been customer support with Microsoft, BlackBerry, Sony, etc....anytime something like this happens you can bet i will share it (minus the company name or nature of communication)
This e-mail (and attachments(s)) is confidential, proprietary, may be subject to copyright and legal privilege and no related rights are waived.
If you are not the intended recipient or its agent, any review, dissemination, distribution or copying of this e-mail or any of its content
is strictly prohibited and may be unlawful. All messages may be monitored as permitted by applicable law and regulations and our policies to protect our business. E-mails are not secure and you are deemed to have accepted any risk if you communicate with us by e-mail. If recieved in error, please notify us immediately and delete the e-mail (and any attachments) from any computer or any storage medium without printing a copy.
Now let me lend it my own line of logic:
# 1
may be subject to copyright and legal privilege and no related rights are waived.
so does this mean i waive my right to drink coffee? And my right to run down the street naked, and my right to say i hate the mayor etc? Well damn!!
# 2
If you are not the intended recipient or its agent, any review, dissemination, distribution or copying of this e-mail or any of its content
is strictly prohibited and may be unlawful.
lets say they sent it to the wrong address....how under this "legal" clause can i view it?
#3
All messages may be monitored as permitted by applicable law and regulations and our policies to protect our business
So in other words they are using outlook, or gmail, or ymail and will call the police if they get a disturbing email
# 4
E-mails are not secure and you are deemed to have accepted any risk if you communicate with us by e-mail.
this contradicts #1 in so many ways it is not even funny
#5
If recieved in error, please notify us immediately and delete the e-mail (and any attachments) from any computer or any storage medium without printing a copy
this contradicts #1 and #2 in so many ways it is not even funny
I have included a screen shot (edited up the yang obviously) to show that i could not make this up:

lol... you're funny!
The legal disclaimer at the bottom of the email is a standard. It doesn't legally obligate you to anything - but if does prevent the writer from being legally obligated if you use the email to do something illegal or publish it without authorization and break some standard in the process.
That's all really.
it's a pretty wordy one though.
Most companies now use that on emails. But few even know why.

As for protecting ones company, i totally agree with you, and it is something i have done for my own little business (not vape related), but when i read this policy/tos/disclaimer i could not help but laugh once my eyes where uncrossed :P
